Danni Washington is a whirlwind of charisma, science smarts, and ocean advocacy and she’s blazing a trail in the SciComm field!

Miami native with Jamaican heritage, Danni Washington is deeply passionate about our oceans and science communications. She dreamed of studying the oceans since she was six years old and that passion has fueled her work as a TV host, thought leader, public speaker, and more.

Currently, Danni is the host of The Genius Generation a new podcast focused on young people behind an incredible invention, entrepreneurial pursuit, or discovery using science. Danni was also featured as a correspondent in season one of a weekly nationally syndicated CBS series called Mission Unstoppable with host Miranda Cosgrove who is also co-Executive Producer alongside fellow actor Geena Davis. Danni has also hosted Xploration Nature Knows Best on FOX and Amazon Prime, a STEM educational TV series that featured the latest advancements in bio-inspired technology and design — making her the first African-American woman to host her own science television series.

Danni Washington is a TV host and Science Communicator who is also the first African-American woman to host her own science television series.

Danni has also worked on other STEM shows and productions including Science the $#!* Out Of It for Facebook Watch, Strange Evidence on the Science Channel, Untamed Science for Pearson Publishing and Ocean GEMS. She also co-starred with Jaden Smith in the official educational outreach video for the theatrical film After Earth starring Jaden and his father Will Smith.

Danni has also come to be known as a thought leader and advocate in the SciComm and ocean conservation realms. She has been a featured speaker for both live and in person events for global organizations including EarthX, InterpTech, the American Black Film Festival, March for the Ocean, Ocean Heroes Bootcamp, Borneo Global Issues Conference, ShiftCon, and many more.

In 2008, Danni graduated from the University of Miami Rosenstiel School of Marine & Atmospheric Science with a B.Sc. in Marine Science/Biology. At age 21, she co-founded along with her mom, Michelle Swaby-Smith the Big Blue & You - A 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring and educating youth about marine conservation through the arts and media.  "Ocean Conservation through Artistic Inspiration".  She also served for four years as a naturalist at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Biscayne Nature Center where she helped educate thousands of South Florida children about local marine ecosystems. 

She also co-created and produced a new initiative called Sea Youth Rise Up which is a collaborative effort to elevate the role of youth leadership in ocean conservation policy and advocacy on World Oceans Day.  

Danni has a deep appreciation for the arts and seeks any creative outlet to express herself, including dance, film and music. She is an avid scuba diver, passionate curly girl, stand-up paddle boarding enthusiast, MOCHA MERMAID and overall lover of the natural world, she is ALWAYS ready for an ADVENTURE.
